Austrian wine—it’s time!
The red wines will surprise you. The dry white wines will blow your mind.
This 8-day wine and culture tour focuses on the "Golden Triangle" of Austrian viticulture: the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, the red-wine haven of Burgenland, and the vibrant capital, Vienna.
May is an ideal time for this trip, as the vineyards are lush and the "Heuriger" (wine taverns) open their outdoor terraces.
Austrian wines have been gaining critical recognition lately yet remain under the radar of many consumers.
Where will we stay?
3 nights in Vienna
We will stay at a 4-star hotel in the inner ring of Vienna. The breakfasts get five stars!
2 nights by the lake
We will stay on the shores of the Neusiedler See while visiting wineries and cultural sites in the area.
2 nights at a wine hotel
We will relax in a wine spa hotel in the Krems Valley
3 reasons to travel with Tyler
Tyler got into wine writing the way so many people do: by writing his Ph.D. dissertation on the political economy of wine in France and the US. He has led successful wine tours in five countries.
He knows wine
Tyler has written two wine books, contributed numerous articles to places like Food & Wine and the New York Times, and his writing has been nominated for a James Beard award. Tyler taught wine classes at NYU for ten years and at the University of Chicago for five. He has led numerous corporate and private events and organized over 200 wine tastings on Zoom, many with winemakers.
He knows wine people
His deep knowledge of the wine industry means this tour will go to significant wineries and meet the people who are telling the important stories of Austrian wine today. He has his finger on the pulse of Austrian winemaking today thanks to frequent visits as well as working with leading importers and their wines.
It’s a snob-free zone
Two words that go together frequently are “wine” and “snob.” Fortunately, the tone of this trip is fun and informative. It will be an amazing, immersive opportunity to expand your wine knowledge no matter what level you bring to the start.
